Traditionally, wedding season in Scotland used to be during the summer months however, these lines are becoming blurred with couples opting for weddings all year round.  With the unpredictability of the weather in Scotland in the summer and the beauty of crisp winter days, why wouldn’t you opt for a winter wedding?

Here at Mansfield Traquair, we have seen an upward trend in Winter Weddings and 2019 speaks for itself, with only three Saturday dates remaining between October and December. Mansfield Traquair is a truly breath-taking setting with the beautiful seasonal colours outside mirrored in our stunning murals inside. The magic of candlelight and fairy lights in our Baldacchino as a back drop to your ceremony, and the warmth of a strong ‘Hot Toddy’ provided by our fabulous catering team at your drinks reception, you can see why couples are opting for winter weddings at Mansfield Traquair.

Transforming the venue

When it comes to a winter wedding, your venue plays one of the biggest parts in shaping your wedding day. Mansfield Traquair is the perfect solution - a ‘one stop shop’ known for its grandeur and versatility based in the heart of Edinburgh; once your guests arrive they don’t need to move again.

This beautiful space can take any theming ideas and works well with the popular metallic colour schemes, winter warmths or frosted pastels. By playing with the lights, linen and décor our team of event designers will help to bring your ‘Pinterest boards’ to reality.

Winter warming food and drinks

When it comes to food and drink during this season it really is about hearty favourites. Why not provide your guests with a ‘hot toddy’ or set up a ‘pimp my hot chocolate’ station to replace the usual summer favourite of cava or prosecco.

The team of award-winning chefs at Heritage Portfolio can help you to create a mouth-watering menu fit for any winter wedding. With the likes of Heritage hay baked lamb, candied figs, ham and rosehip kernels with tree spinach, red tip chicory and rainbow chard as a starter on your menu and followed by a duo of Perthshire roe deer; roast loin and haunch with kohlrabi pasties, red cabbage, Jerusalem artichoke puree, pickled turnip tips with salsify and piquant jus. And a delicious warm dark chocolate and chilli tart with spiced cherry jam, iced lemongrass cream and stem ginger glass for desert; what more could your guests want.

Our extended team of trusted suppliers

Here at Mansfield we like to use the best in the business for our events. From fabulous florists to talented cake designers, from those who turn lighting into an art form and to those who can fill a dancefloor within a few fun-filled seconds.

Planet Flowers is one of our trusted suppliers when it comes to filling up Mansfield with beautiful floral displays.  Suzanne from Planet Flowers tells us about some trends they’re currently experiencing ‘We are seeing a lot of greenery heavy designs and lots of beautiful berry tones for this winter. When couple's come to us with a greenery style our inspiration tends to come from the great outdoors and all things natural - something we love to work with and to create. Winter weddings in Scotland allow for a warm, intimate style within a beautiful venue, using beautiful candles and sparkling fairy lights.’

Liggy’s Cakes is one of Scotland’s leading Wedding Cake Company and one our trusted suppliers. Their beautiful cakes combine intricate designs with the most delicious ingredients, and they are set to steal the show.

Claire from Liggys Cakes on their top winter wedding tip for couples ‘really embrace the romance of the season when choosing your cake flavours and design - make the most of the rustic charm or opulent glamour - really think what makes the season special for you and don't shy away from being adventurous with styles and tastes that evoke the sensations of winter for you as a couple!’

Winter weddings are a refreshing change from the summery norm and an excuse to go all-out to embrace the sights and sensations of winter - from an irresistibly cosy and rustic look with pine-cones, winter berries and foliage combined with warm flavours of cinnamon and winter spice, to the opulent glamour of rich Christmassy reds and golds with traditional fruitcake and brandy flavours - there are so many ways to embrace the time of year.
