Having met in Edinburgh and fallen deeply in love, the couple decided our stunning city would be the perfect location to celebrate their wedding nuptials. When Charlotte and Alasdair entered Mansfield Traquair for one of our Wedding Open Days, they knew straight away it was ‘The Venue’. Their wedding day fell on Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year, making for a day filled with romance, love and happiness.

When the bride stepped out of a fantastic vintage car in a stunning chiffon gown with lots of sparkle and beautifully embellished shoulder caps, we could hear oohhs and aahhs from inside! Alasdair looked rather dashing himself, sporting his family's ancient hunting tartan and a gorgeous dark blue tweed jacket and muted red tie.

When the doors to Mansfield Traquair opened, Charlotte took everyone’s breath away walking down the dramatic long aisle:

‘It was the most overwhelming moment of my life. I couldn't stop myself from crying and was squeezing my dad’s hand the whole time. It was utterly magical and I will NEVER forget that moment for the rest of my life.’

The couple married in a really personal humanist ceremony under the soaring ceilings of the Baldacchino.

Even without any adornment, Mansfield Traquair is a jaw-dropping space; add stunning centrepieces with gold willow, golden chairs and tables set with the elegant cream linen and romantic candlelight; it becomes an enchanted palace.

From the start we both agreed that we wanted our wedding to be more like a black tie ball, glitzy, glamorous and formal. We wanted to keep the colours simple and elegant. Our favours were Demijohns of rose petal vodka for the girls- with it being Valentine’s Day and for the boys we had Demijohns of vesper martini which Alasdair is known for making when people come to visit.’

One of the most important things for Alasdair and Charlotte was the food that they carefully selected at their wedding tasting with our fabulous wedding planner, Bryony:

‘The food at Mansfield is INCREDIBLE, we had the best time choosing what to eat. We are very into cooking and eating in restaurants and so we were delighted to have picked somewhere where the food was so good. Most people find that food at weddings is never a strong point and we wanted to defy this tradition and we certainly did. We went for the Traquair package and every dish we had was sublime. One of our favorite moments during the planning was the menu tasting as it was so romantic and such a fun thing to be able to do.’

And we were absolutely thrilled to hear that the wedding breakfast was one of the favourite moments for not just the bride and groom, but also for their guests:

‘I think for us both the most memorable moment was the meal. Not only just the food but also the service. We have never seen anything like it. It was like a Mi5 mission. Slick, professional and unbelievably attentive. It was up there with the Michelin star restaurants in Edinburgh. We sat back during the meal and smiled proudly at  just how flawless they were. All the guests have been raving about what a different experience it was from other weddings they have been to.’

Following a true feast for the senses, and Charlotte and Alasdair’s fabulous wedding dance, the real party began with guest dancing into the wee small hours.

Charlotte and Alasdair, we absolutely loved being a part of your big day – from meeting you, planning your nuptials, advising you on the menu to seeing you make your vows and enjoy your wedding day. You’re such a fun, loving couple. We wish you all the happiness in the world!
